WordCamp Women’s Speaker WorkShop

Are You Ready for WordCamp? WordCamp is Ready for You!

The flight crew announced the call for speakers (every flight needs some entertainment, right?).  In keeping with the goals of our Pilots, we will be holding workshops to help those interested in becoming part of our WordPress community or playing a larger role in it.

Thinking about speaking?

Unsure if you have it in you?
Not sure about your content?
Just want to learn more?

WordCamp Speaker Training - Women's Workshop

This is a workshop for women who are thinking about speaking at WordPress events, such as WordPress Meetup and WordCamp. During this hands-on session, we’ll look at what has stopped you from speaking in the past — and explore how to move past your doubts.

We will discuss some common myths about public speaking, different talk formats, and we will focus on finding your areas of expertise (yes, you have areas of expertise!). We will brainstorm topics you can talk about at a WordCamp or other event.

Each participant will come out of the workshop with a WordCamp or Meetup talk idea — and more confidence to submit it.

***You do NOT have to have any experience in public speaking. This workshop is for all levels of experience.

This workshop is for you if:

>You identify as a woman.
>You’re not sure how to develop a talk about your topic.
>You’ve thought about speaking at Meetup or WordCamp but haven’t been able to think of a topic

When and Where?

Date: Wednesday, August 8, 2018, 6:00-8:00 PM

Meet the Ground Crew: DreamHost

DreamHost Logo

DreamHost loves Seattle!

(and we love DreamHost!)

First of all, do you know how hard it is to find a city with a working monorail?  It’s 2018 – they should be everywhere! Luckily Seattle’s has been working flawlessly since the 1962 World’s Fair.

Once we realized that sponsoring WordCamp Seattle would mean we could ride on the monorail, we knew what we had to do.

DreamHost is proud to be a sponsor of WordCamp Seattle 2018!

Here’s a crazy statistic! On average we have 1.8 WordPress installations for every single customer at DreamHost. That’s a whole lot of WordPress all over our servers. With WordPress powering nearly a third of all sites on the web, it’s hard to see why anyone wouldn’t get excited about its incredible ability to give voices to the voiceless through lovingly-crafted lines of poetic code.

DreamHost supports WordPress with our time, with our talent, and with our technology. We’ve built incredible managed WordPress hosting options like DreamPress that make it run like lightning!

WordPress brings the creativity of people and the power of computers together in a way that few platforms have been able to accomplish. The WordPress community is incredible and never ceases to amaze us! It’s full of thousands of helpful people, all focused as much on improving the core platform as it is to ensure that anyone who wants their voice heard online gets that chance.

WordCamps take the best of the WordPress community and bring it offline. WordPress users, designers, and developers of all skill levels gather together for two days of learning and networking in one of the most supportive environments you’ll find in the tech world.

We’re thrilled to be sponsoring WordCamp Seattle this year and can’t wait to hear your stories!

On Behalf of the Entire Crew, Welcome Aboard

Welcome aboard - WordCamp Seattle 2018 #wcsea

We’ve working through the pre-flight checklist

First off is the theme. We chose to stay with ‘aviation’ for 2018. Seattle’s connection to flight dates back to 1908 and with Boeing’s incorporation in May of 1917, it took off.

As you can tell by the menu and page titles, as well as the language we’re using, we intend to have a little bit of fun with the theme.

If you are part of the Ground Crew (our sponsors), the In-Flight entertainment (our speakers),  or simply a Passenger (thank you in advance for boarding), we’d love your help in carrying the theme throughout your marketing and time at the event.

Second, as the lead marketing wrangler I need to give a shout out to Branden for his efforts in getting this site ready for flight and to Tamara for the logo, colors, and the graphics you’ll see here, on our social profiles, and at the event.

I’ll add a big shout out to everyone else on the flight crew. Each has already contributed in a number of ways and I am proud to be part of it.

On behalf of the entire crew, welcome aboard

We look forward to you joining us and meeting everyone along the way.  While the destination matters, it’s the friendships you make and the experiences you have during your travels which truly last a lifetime.

Lead Marketing Wrangler
