I’m new to WordPress, will this be over my head?
Absolutely NOT! We’ve carefully selected speakers to meet everyone’s needs. We’ll have a hands-on, Learn to Use Your WordPress Website workshop first thing on Saturday! You’ll find everyone friendly and knowledgeable, especially at the Human Help Desk where you can get every WordPress question you have answered by an experienced WordPress user. There’ll be lots of resources in the sponsor area as well and plenty of time to network.
I’m an experienced developer, will this be too basic for me?
Nope! Not at all. Take a look at the schedule which will be posted when tickets go on sale Sept 9. You’ll see sessions on advanced coding topics as well as additional business, community, and other general interest topics. You can also spend time in the Contributor Track on Sunday and give back to the community by helping with an assortment of tasks.
So is this conference only about coding?
Definitely NOT! We have something for everyone. Do you blog? Got you covered. Freelance? Got you covered. Maybe you’re with a nonprofit? We have you covered too! Need to learn about Search Engine Optimization (SEO)… you got it. Check out the complete line-up on the Schedule page.
Are the sessions recorded and available to watch after the conference?
Absolutely. They’ll be posted within roughly a month after WordCamp on WordPress.tv.
What’s up with lunch?
Rather than keep you inside for an expensive catered lunch, last year we offered lunch cards each day. The feedback was excellent. Attendees enjoyed the chance to stretch their legs and to do some networking. All restaurant options are within a short walk of the venue. Be aware that you must be present on Sunday to get the second lunch card.
Also be aware that although the schedule looks like lunch is only 60 minutes on Saturday, the sessions are all set up to have 15 minutes after them for networking, so lunch will be 1:15. Saturday also offers an additional 15-30 minute break mid-afternoon so you can also plan on a later lunch if you prefer.
Can I volunteer at WordCamp?
You bet. Thanks for your interest in joining the team! The entire event is put on by volunteer organizers, and we can definitely use your help. Our on-site volunteers help ensure a great event for all attendees. You can apply online. And if you’re interested in helping organize the event next year, please be sure to indicate that on the application form.
Do you offer scholarships?
Yes we do. If you can’t afford the $40 registration fee, please email seattle@wordcamp.org with Scholarship in the subject line.
Can I just pay for one day or give my entry to a friend or co-worker on the other day?
Unfortunately not. The ticket price is heavily subsidized and we’ve already spent your money! Every attendee gets $25 worth of swag and lunch leaving a small amount to cover the venue costs including coffee service and AV. Please note: to get Sunday’s lunch card you must be present on Sunday.
Can I get a refund?
Yes, you can cancel your registration and issue yourself a refund up until 5 days before the event. Just follow the link in your order confirmation email. Because we order meal cards and incur other expenses several days before the event, we can’t issue refunds after October 31.
Where is the best place to park at The Conference Center?
There are plenty of parking garages around The Conference Center. Learn more about the event parking information from the WSCC Website. The Main Entrance is on 8th Avenue, between Pike & Seneca Streets. We highly recommend using public transit . . .
Can I get there on public transit?
Absolutely! The venue is a few blocks from the Westlake Light Rail station and many busses stop at the Convention place station or other nearby cross streets. Use Google Maps to plot your public transit directions to WordCamp!
I’m coming from out of town – where can I stay?
We don’t have a hotel partnership, but there are plenty of great hotels within walking distance of the venue. You can also check AirBnB. You could also stay on Capitol Hill and walk downtown or take the LINK light rail.
