One of the best parts of WordCamp is that it brings together people of all backgrounds and skill levels. From someone who’s never used WordPress, to a developer who has written much of the code behind the platform, WordCamp is meant to be accesible to all, no matter your skill level or background.
For those that write code (often coined “developers”), WordCamp often isn’t the best venue for hands on application of the coding concepts discussed. In order to take advantage of having so many great developers in Seattle at the same time, we are hosting an informal “Developer Day” Sunday June 9th, the day after WordCamp.
The developer day will be an open, informal gathering aimed at providing a more “hands on” opportunity to share, learn, and apply concepts talked about at WordCamp. We have a rough outline of the day, however it’s also open to group co-working, unconference sessions, and anything that developers want to bring to the table.
When: Sunday June 9th, 12pm – 5pm
Where: The HUB Seattle (NOT THE SAME VENUE AS SATURDAY)
Cost: $0, FREE, Nada
Who: Coders, themers, aspiring core contributors, beginners & advanced coders… everyone welcome (knowledge of code encouraged)
What: An informal, unstructured day of co-working. Potential activities include:
1. Informal talks from awesome people:
- Otto – Something awesome with lots of code
- Daniel Bachhuber – WP CLI
- Mark Kelnar (WP Engine) – Using GIT
- Daniel Bachhuber & Eric Amundsen – contributing to the Plugin Developer handbook
- Impromptu Unconference style talks?
2. Lunch: Pizza arriving around 1pm. Come hungry!
3. Breakout rooms for small groups to split off and work quietly/diligently on small projects.
Transportation?
We don’t have any transportation arranged right now, however there are bus lines that run from the U district (near the Saturday venue) downtown. I’d recommend posting here to possibly team up with others to carpool, or checkout out the bus lines. P.S. – it’s also a pretty short cab ride if you wanted to do it that way. Probably ~$10 cab.
